Community Relations

Portucel Moçambique places the greatest importance on continuing dialogue, agreement and friendly relations between the company and local communities in the areas licensed for its forestry ventures.

In order to ensure that good relations are established on a firm and lasting basis, the company has set up a complaints procedure allowing it to manage and monitor the project's dealings with communities and families.

In order to manage its relationship with communities living in its licensed areas and to ensure that they are kept in constant touch with the project managers, Portucel Moçambique has deployed special community communication teams who combine local knowledge with best international practice.

Alongside this, Portucel Moçambique has adopted a Media Plan designed to consolidate ongoing dialogue and information-sharing with its local communities and partners.

In designing these processes and training its personnel, Portucel Moçambique has worked in conjunction with the advisory services of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the venture capital arm of the World Bank.

Social Responsibility

The company commits to invest in health, education, agriculture and social infrastructure, helping directly about 24.000 families living within the DUAT plots in Manica and Zambézia.

In order to develop this mechanism and train the teams, Portucel Moçambique has worked together with Advisory Services of the IFC, member of the World Bank, an entity that provides consultancy in developing the project in accordance to the most strict international principles and criteria, in both social and environmental aspects.
